Come and watch a movie exploring various topics related to death, grief, and illness. There will be discussion, snacks, and prizes. There is no cost. All films to be shown at Beacon Hospice, South Portland. Please contact Heather Thompson at 207-772-0929 for more information and to register.



September 30, 5:45 p.m. The Savages: Two adult siblings are confronted with what adulthood, family, love, and mortality are all about as they are called upon to care for their elderly estranged father.

October 21, 5:45 p.m.  Away From Her: A man coping with the institutionalization of his wife due to Alzheimer’s disease face an epiphany when she transfers her affections to another man.

November 13, 5:45 p.m. The Story of the Weeping Camel:  A National Geographic film about Mongolian herders facing a crisis when a mother camel rejects her baby.  The pair is reunited using a folk ritual of music and chanting.  An excellent blend of drama, nature documentary and ethnographic film.
